Smita Bellur, a trained Hindustani Classical Vocalist and Sufi Singer, with over 300 concerts to her credit, presented “Anubhava Lahari” – Mystical verses of Sufis, Yogis, Dasas and Veerashaiva Pramatharu.
She started her recital with Purandara Dasa’s “Guruvina Olumeyu” in Raga Yaman. Explaining the importance of a GURU in Divine Pursuit of the creator, she spoke of Meera’s love for Krishna through “Kin Sang Khelu Holi”.
Then she sang “Bettada Melondu” –Akka Mahadevi Vachana. Kabir’s “Pani me main Pyasi”, Basavanna’s “Suprabhata Samayadalli”, Sufi Compositions “Root gaye more”, Baba Bulle Shah’s “Bulla kee Jaana Main Kaun”, “Man Kunto Maula” followed next.
The versatile singer explored different ragas, genres, moods, taals and moved effortlessly in the 3 octaves. She gained applause and appreciation from the audience with each composition.
She explained that “Sufism is nothing but experiencing the connect with the Divine through a divine love for the creator”.
Her “Man Kunto Maula” and “Kodagana Koli nungitha” – by Shishunala Shareife were foot tapping and made people dance in their minds.
The audience loved the recital. The accompanists NISSAR AHMED on Tabla, VINOD PADGE on Harmonium, JAYESH D on Octopad were brilliant.
